What's up everyone. This is Bite of Balance, your weekly snack size therapy sesh. I'm your host, teresa, and today's Bite is all about resolutions and how to maintain them. If you missed that episode, be sure to check it out, but for now it's just you and me, so let's freaking get into it. ["bite of Balance"]. Okay, so I think what stresses people out the most about resolutions and completing them is the fact that when they have a misstep, they feel like they're done, like they completely are off the path.

Speaker 1:

So, first things first, you need to set realistic goals for yourself. Instead of aiming for grand, sweeping changes, focus on small, attainable goals. So, for example, instead of resolving to completely overhaul your whole diet, start by adding more vegetables to your meals each day. This way, you can start with healthier habits and hopefully build on those habits to complete your main goal, which would be overhauling your diet. You have to start small. Next, you need to practice self-compassion. This was one that was actually really difficult for me in the beginning, but once I started to do it, I really started to conquer more of my goals.

Speaker 1:

You're gonna wanna understand that setbacks are a natural part of any journey. They're normal. You're human. You are not perfect. You aren't going to be perfect when trying to attain your goals. So, instead of being hard on yourself for not meeting a goal, practice self-compassion. Treat yourself with the same kindness and understanding that you would offer a friend facing a similar challenge. So this is so important you would never say to a friend that is having a hard time completing a goal. You would never beat them up about it. You would build them up and try and get them to understand that they are human.

Speaker 1:

So do the same thing for yourself and next, celebrate your freaking progress. Don't wait until you've reached your ultimate goal to celebrate, because nine times out of 10, if you do not celebrate along the way, you're gonna burn out and you are not going to accomplish your ultimate goal. Acknowledge and celebrate each step forward, no matter how small they are. So let's just say you wanted to work out every single day and your workout takes place at the gym. Let's say you have kids and they had a snow day. This actually just recently happened to me.

Speaker 1:

Move your body. Okay, you might not be able to get to the gym that day because of what life has thrown at you, but resolve to move your body, whether that be getting extra steps in, whether that be using a machine at home, do something and count that as a win. This positive reinforcement can help motivate you to continue on your journey. And, as always before you go, here's your bite of balance tool for the week, and we are calling it the mindful check-in. So, at the end of each day, take a few moments to reflect on your progress towards your resolution. Ask yourself what did I do today that aligned with my goals? What challenges did I face? How can I adjust my approach moving forward?

By practicing this mindful check-in, you can stay focused on your resolutions and make adjustments as needed, leading to a more successful and fulfilling year ahead. You may think it's stupid, you may think it's small and not necessary, but it is. When you actually sit down and think about the things that you accomplished, you're gonna realize that, even though they may seem small, they're a building block. So that's all for today. Remember, resolutions are not about perfection. They are about progress and growth. So I expect all of you, after listening to this, to realize that any progress is progress, no matter how small. I expect you to get out there to take those small, attainable steps so that, in the end, you accomplish your ultimate goal. Until next time, I'm out, I'm out, I'm out, I'm out, I'm out.
